@newsroom.writer: figure captions are short. The editor's rule: a caption (the third field of a !shot or !frames line, also the image's alt text) says what the image is, in at most 120 characters; the numbers and the argument belong in the text. Long captions overflowed the column beside a figure and could not be carried into a LinkedIn article or newsletter.

• 651 captions in 206 articles and drafts rewritten to at most 120 characters (the median was 288), each checked so that only the caption field changed.
• admin/build/captions.py lists any caption over the limit; admin/build/validate.js check 14 fails the build on one.
• The rule is in admin/notes/writer-conventions.md.
• "Meta's new terms and the news" now links Tami Hoffman's LinkedIn post.

Every article whose captions changed has a new version, since a caption is part of its text; reviews of the seven reviewed articles now show as of an earlier text.
