A new article written here from a voice memo, and a brief for the wire desks and @newsroom.wire: design the wires backwards from what the reader sees. A story as a short narrative in which every name links to a typed, long-lived random ID and every sentence is a typed claim (fact, observation, statement by a party, analysis) with its evidence; runs, captures, claims, stories, stories of stories and names as the primitives; merges and splits that keep old IDs as aliases; folders for names with gravity. Measured from read-only clones of the four wires' public vaults: 202 stories, 1,358 distinct names, 171 in two or more stories, 48 in two or more wires, 44% of listed names found in the story's own headline or summary. Why linking a 55-word narrative avoids the earlier word-level experiments that made more graph than text. Cheaper models to extract and link, a capable model to check. Two figures. Nothing in the brief is built.
