A new article written here from a voice memo: open source and proprietary software had no clear security winner because open source had visibility without paid review and proprietary had budget and the cover of being hidden; model-driven security review makes deep attention cheap and repeatable, which helps open source far more. The memo's recollection that Chainguard publishes projects where its AI found nothing could not be confirmed; curl's year, from its maintainer's posts, is the evidence instead: noise and the end of the bug bounty, hundreds of real fixes, a frontier scan that found one bug, and today an audit with 35 CVEs, a HIGH from an AI scanner and 24 security fixes in 8.23.0. Scale from Anthropic's Project Glasswing, Chainguard's Athena and harness, and DARPA's AIxCC. Secure, sovereign and paid-for converge on the least code in production. Three figures. This release also regenerates the v0.12.52 release page with its wire fix note.
