A record attempt the agenda does not mention

Two Portuguese outlets say a 48-hour Guinness pitch marathon runs alongside the summit on 16–17 September. The event's own agenda page, four days out, does not list it. Both are frozen; neither is wrong yet.

What the press says is happening on Wednesday

On 29 July 2026 two Portuguese outlets published the same story on the same day. AICEP Portugal Global, the state trade and investment agency, and Portugal Business News both reported that Startup Summit Lisbon would host a 48-hour non-stop startup pitch marathon as an official attempt on a Guinness World Records title, with almost a thousand founders taking part, remotely or in person at Unicorn Factory Lisboa's Beato Innovation District, on 16–17 September 2026.

What the event's own agenda says

The event's agenda page, frozen on 13 September, lists a Welcome Drinks on the evening of the 16th, a Morning Run at 07:30 on the 17th, an Opening Keynote at 09:30, four named sessions across two stages, lunch, investor office hours and a Founder Social.

It does not list a pitch marathon. It does not mention a record attempt. The word Guinness does not appear on it.

So the honest description is not "the agenda contradicts the press". It is: the two pieces of coverage describe a headline event, and the event's own published programme, as of four days before it, does not carry it. Those are compatible. A summarised agenda can omit things. A record attempt run alongside the summit rather than inside it might live on a different page. This publication does not know which, and says so.

One page, two dates

There is a smaller wrinkle inside one of the two reports. Portugal Business News' summary line dates the marathon to 17 September; the body of the same article dates it to 16–17 September. Both are on one page, frozen with one hash. AICEP says 16–17 throughout.

That is the kind of thing a reader never notices, because nobody reads a summary line and a body paragraph against each other. A graph layer notices, because it extracts a date from each and finds two.

Why this is the third story and not the first

The first story on this site was about a list that changed. The second was about two names for the same three stages. This one is about the gap between what the press says will happen and what the programme says will happen.

All three have the same shape, and it is deliberate: publish the record, never the verdict, and no adjective about a named party. None of them says the event is disorganised. None says the press got it wrong. Each says: here are two published things, here is where they differ, here are the frozen copies, decide for yourself.

It is also the first story that stands on sources this publication did not get from the event itself — which matters, because until now every source in the register had one publisher. Two Portuguese outlets and a state agency are now in it, and the graph has a Coverage type with a covers edge whose inverse is covered_by, because a path from a news article to the event it is about should read as a sentence in either direction.

What would settle it

Somebody at Beato on Wednesday evening. The reception is at seven. If a pitch marathon is running, it will be hard to miss, and this publication's editor of record will be in the building. The next snapshot will say which.
