The owner handed the OpenRouter key on the evening of 14 October; this release carries what it bought and what it taught. The pictures (card 056): a hero per edition and a card per story for the four wires' editions of 13 October and the Industry Wire's of 15 October, 71 images for $10.24, each shown on its wire page with an AI-image chip, the model, OpenRouter's own cost and the prompt on request; the hero in the edition's header, the card beside its story, a story keeping its card across editions; the line under the header saying what the edition's pictures cost. The pipeline learnt from the first run: every model returns a square, so the prompts ask for one; Nano Banana 2.1 was rate-limited upstream for everyone, Gemini 3.1 Flash Image misspelt two headlines, so the cards go to Gemini 3 Pro Image (fourteen cents, every word exact) with retries, a pause between images, a fall-through to the next model when one stays refused, a stop after three failures, and caps counted in billed prices; --card-model and --hero-model on the command line. The accountant (card 061): admin/build/accountant.py, the role @newsroom.accountant, sums every ledger into wire/costs.html and wire/costs.json by wire, edition, month, model and kind, per piece of work (a hero $0.25, a card $0.14, an edition about $2), with the key's budget as OpenRouter last reported it, linked from every wire's strip as "What it costs". The morning routine's prompt carries the pictures step (card 060, on the key reaching its environment; the unattended runs of 14 and 15 October still stopped at the permission check). Also: the how page explains the pictures; the snapshot carries their totals; the design note records what the first live run taught.
