The reading list, made for the people who land on it. A list in an email is now the first page of the newsroom for many readers, and it was a narrow column of links. A list now uses the width of the window, says what it is in a side column (what the reader is looking at, the newsroom in four steps lit one after another, the list as a persona, where to find out more), and shows what the reader has done with it: a ring with the share read, the articles read and started, the time left and what it has cost, and a Continue button that goes to the first section not yet read.

Five views, the choice remembered: Cards (each article's card picture, its teaser, and a bar of its sections filled as they are read), Headlines (one line each), Sections (every section's one-line summary, ticked as read, each a link to the section), Pictures (the articles' figures) and Graph (the list as a path, each article's main ideas, an arc where one links to another, and the articles beyond the list they lead to). A filter shows all, still to read, or read. Done, Later and Not for me on each article are kept as the reader's notes, the same records the vault pane keeps and the vault carries; a second tap takes one back.

What was read comes from this browser only (the reading strip, the meter, the notes), and the page redraws when another tab reads an article on the list. for/list-views.js; for/for.css; twelve new checks in admin/build/test_lists.mjs.

Reviewed by the Designer. Before release the Designer role reviewed the page on the list Dinis sent Katya, at 1440 and 390 wide in every view, and fourteen of its findings are fixed here: a masthead and a letter at the top (a dateline, an italic kicker, the names, the note signed, and the numbers only once reading has started), rules rather than boxes, the first card across the width with its picture legible and the rest two up, the date first on every card and the decisions at its foot, a side column that no longer scrolls inside itself, one line on a phone to say what the page is, pictures never cropped, a graph without the empty band and with ideas wrapped, and sections folded until an article is started. The review and what was done about each finding: admin/notes/2026-10-21__the-reading-list-design-review.md.
